In 1989, the longest dictatorship in the region came to an end in Paraguay. After 34 years in power, Alfredo Stroessner and the military under his command destroyed most of the country's film archive. The materials produced and used by the military government to create an idea of the Nation were later disappeared by those same forces to avoid possible reinterpretations. Today, based on tapes found in Paraguay and abroad, "Bajo las Banderas, el Sol" seeks to tell that silenced story.
